About Garage Door Spring Repairs

Garage Door Spring Repair in Westland Michigan by McClellan Overhead Door

The Importance of Garage Door Springs

Garage door springs play a critical role in the functionality and safety of your garage door. They bear the brunt of the door's weight, enabling it to open and close with ease. This is why maintaining, repairing, and, when necessary, replacing these springs is crucial for both residential and commercial properties. In Westland, Michigan, McClellan Overhead Door offers expert services to ensure that your garage door operates smoothly. Understanding the mechanics and the significance of garage door springs is vital for any property owner seeking to maintain their garage in optimal condition.

Understanding the Mechanism

The operation of garage door springs is quite fascinating. These components are designed to counterbalance the weight of the door, making manual opening or the use of a motorized opener feasible. There are two primary types of springs used in garage doors: torsion springs and extension springs. Torsion springs are mounted above the door and utilize torque to lift the door. In contrast, extension springs are located on the sides and leverage pulling force to accomplish the same task. Each type has its unique benefits and risks, necessitating expert evaluation for proper handling and installation.

Identifying Signs of Wear and Tear

As time goes by, garage door springs endure significant wear and tear, which can lead to malfunctions. Common signs of spring issues include doors that are difficult to open, noisy operations, or doors that fail to stay up. Addressing these symptoms promptly is key to preventing accidents or further damage. Engaging the services of professionals such as McClellan Overhead Door is advisable when such signs are noticed. Their expertise ensures that your garage door springs are either repaired or replaced correctly, preserving the integrity of your door system.

The Process of Overhead Door Spring Repair

Repairing an overhead door spring involves several steps, beginning with a thorough inspection to assess the condition of the existing springs and identify any other potential issues. Technicians at McClellan Overhead Door then proceed with the safe removal of the faulty springs, taking care to release tension in a controlled manner. New springs, selected to match the specifications of your door, are then installed. This process is meticulous, ensuring that the door balances properly and operates smoothly. Post-installation checks confirm that the door functions correctly and safely once repairs are complete.

When discussing garage door spring repair, cost is often a primary concern for many homeowners and business owners alike. The cost of repairing or replacing garage door springs can vary widely, influenced by factors such as the type of spring, the complexity of the repair, and the urgency of the service required. Generally, the more specialized or custom-built the door system is, the higher the repair or replacement cost might be. Accurate assessments and transparent pricing from service providers like McClellan Overhead Door can alleviate concerns, ensuring that clients receive fair value for their investment.

About Westland, Michigan

During the 18th century, the area was inhabited by the people of a Potawatomi Native American village. Other tribes, particularly three Algonquian tribes, used the area as hunting territory. Though white settlers did not begin to settle the area until about 1824, they began passing through at the beginning of the 19th century.

Before becoming Westland, the area had several other names. In 1827, the area became known as Bucklin Township, which included what is now the cities of Westland, Livonia, Garden City, Inkster, Wayne, Dearborn, Dearborn Heights and Redford Township. In 1829, it was proposed that Bucklin Township be divided into Lima and Richland; the former is what eventually became Westland. Due to name conflicts under territorial law prohibiting duplication of post office names, Lima was renamed Nankin Township, after the Chinese city of Nanking.

Nankin Township was mostly rural until World War II. The Norwayne subdivision is one of the oldest areas of the city, having existed for over 65 years. The area was built immediately after World War II to provide temporary housing for returning soldiers who worked in nearby factories.

By 1960, Nankin Township's population had increased to 70,000, giving the area the distinction of being the state's largest township. During the early 1960s, the city of Livonia wanted to annex the part of Nankin in which a large shopping mall, Westland Shopping Center, was to be built. The shopping center eventually opened in 1965, joining Northland and Eastland malls in Southfield and Harper Woods, respectively. In reaction to Livonia's annexation attempts, the people of Nankin Township voted on May 16, 1966, to take all other territory to form the City Of Westland. At that time, it was the fourth largest city in Wayne County.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 20.45 square miles (52.97 km), of which 20.43 square miles (52.91 km) is land and 0.02 square miles (0.05 km) is water.
